The other day, Gubby sent me a photo he took. Here is a detail from it:
Gubby has a habit of sending me photos of water towers. I like water towers about as much as the next guy, but that's not why Gubby sends me these photos. I need to give you some background.
I grew up here:
Sort of. Not really. And Gubby grew up here:
Kinda. Somewhat different map, but you get the idea.
In between? The town of Orland. We were both country kids. The difference? I had a little tiny elementary school near me, but Gubby didn't. Therefore Gubby, the country kid from The Other Side Of Town, went to Town Schools. Gubby was A Townie to us, The Hicks From The North Side.
Gubby has apparently never gotten over his jealousy of The Hicks From The North Side, so he likes to tease me terribly. His current favorite tease is about water towers. Gubby claims that we country hicks used to stand staring at the Orland water tower, mouths agape.
"Wahll, lookie thar!" we'd say, in Gubby's imagination. "That thar is a big ol' bucket o' water on a stick! Ah'm a-fixin' ta git me a drink o' that thar water!"
(Gubby has dreamed up elaborate scenarios based on country bumpkins and our quaint speech patterns.)
And so Gubby likes to send me photos that he's taken of water towers. I suppose he feels it may soothe me.
It kind of does.
Gub? Here's a photo for you that my 7-year-old took last month.
Thanks for the water tower photo, Gub. Keep 'em comin'.
