Tonight when I got home from work I found amazon.com/UK open on my desktop. I have never had a reason to visit amazon.com/UK, so I know it wasn't my doing. Since Chas is less likely to touch the computer than, oh, I don't know, NUCLEAR WASTE, I knew it was Smedley who had somehow found this page. She'll be five years old in a month, and making progress on the reading front, but I'm still betting that it was a mixture of tantalizing pictures and pure luck that got her there. Chas related the conversation when he got home tonight.
"I want to buy this."
"Does it say how much it is?"
"I think it's two dollars."
"No, that's 17 1/2 English pounds. That's like . . . thirty dollars."
"I wanna buy it."
"Well, kid you're gonna need a credit card and a valid ID of an 18-year-old."
I didn't hear her answer to this, but it doesn't matter. Smedley has discovered the fabulous world of on-line shopping, at age four, and my world is crashing down around my ears. AGAIN.
